Christmas 2016

Christmass has been over for a while even though I won't admit that. Maybe, because I usually have continued the Christmas till the New Years Eve spending the days doing nothing in my pyjamas, reeding books with chocolate and of course seeing my friends. Past years I've went to Helsinki for the Christmas sales and the city has been crazy. There has been more people than the days before Christmas which I found quite funny. Unfortunately I'm back in the barrack and had to open my computer and get back to work. Not that I don't want to write, vice versa, but I would rather live in the illusion of Christmas with dozens of blankets and mulled wine.

I had great Christmas with my family and friends. My Christmas was very traditional mainly because I wanted it to be. Even though the traditions will change and new come, I want to treasure the old ones as much as I can, so I spend the Christmas Eve first at my moms and then in my grandmas just like the past years. Unfortunately I didn't see my grandpapa and papa because they wren't in the city.  Even tough I want to see everyone,  obviously, I won't judge if someone doesn't want to have traditional Christmas. , everyone can spend their Christmas whee they what and how they want. I'm not ready to leave my hometown to spend the christmas somewhere else, yet.

In Christmas night I went to the church with my sister and our friends and stayed up till the morning in one of our friends kitchen just talking and catching up. The Christmas Day party at Seurahuone, hotel in my city with legendary parties in Christmas and the graduation day in summer, was amazing. I was there last year too so I suppose we can keep it as a tradition, right? Everyone was there and I had so much fun. Definitely the party of the year, again.

So this was my Christmas 2016. I took pictures only the Christmas Eve with the magical feeling Christmas come in with. This year was also the first one I was more excited about giving than getting presents. I feel the ones I gave was quite personal and some of them very sentimental as well. I my self got lots of chocolates and books, the ones I wanted, so I couldn't be happier.

What to Wear During the Holidays?

Don't know what to wear on Christmas? Don't worry, I do either. On Christmas I have always chosen my outfit by the feeling I have at the moment. The key to best Christmas outfit is to feel good. If you feel good, you look good. Choose your outfit that make you feel cozy or million dollar depending your plans. What you wear has a great impact on how you feel.

This is the outfit I will probably wear on Christmas day, when I go to the club with my friends. Going out on Christmas day might seem weird but in Finland the Christmas Eve is the day we really celebrate the Christmas with our families and the Christmas Day is the time to stay home, see relatives and yes, go out. I want to look great but also feel comfortable so I will wear white shirt with black jeans, classic combo the can't ever go wrong and look festive and the most important feels good, if the jeans fit well and shirt is tailored like those should be. Wear the classic items you already have and style it with red, green and gold details and accessories, if you want. You really don't need to buy the new velvet suit or Christmas jumper.  Forget the too tight cloths you have, Christmas is all about feeling good.

Top 5 Last Minute Gifts to Buy

It starts to be the last minutes to go to the city and get those presents you haven't already got. I won't promise I save you but I have few classic gift ideas on my mind that might help you. Buying gift is always special because people are different. Someone would die for that Body Shop lotion box and someone can't stand books. You have to know something about the person you are buying the gift, and obviously you do. I have 5 ideas thats are suitable with every age and gender. You can fin all of these from department store with is the number one place to go christmas shopping, you find everything under the same roof. Before you take the bus to the city write down who you need to get something and what will you get. Otherwise you will spend whole day founding nothing and finally do bad purchases on the last minutes before the store closes.

The most traditional and easiest one: everyone loves chocolate. A box of chocolate might be the best  choice if you can't figure out anything else. You can invest in some more expensive truffles, but the department stores has great selections of great quality treats that are not very pricy. Just don't buy the tackiest and cheapest ones, please. Those look and taste terrible. My favorites are the most festive liqueurs and chocolate balls you can get buy danish brand Lakrids by Johan Bulow. I can't wait to get those from someone.

A book is always a good idea. If the one you are buying the present loves reading this is no doubt the xx one. But you can still give a book even he/she doesn't love to read. You can give a copy of your own favorite book, one from the bestsellers list or even ask if there is a book he/she would like to get. You can  never go wrong with classic either, and my suggestion is The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Perfumes & Cosmetics

Since 2010 I've got new fragrance every Chritmas. There might be a fragrance on her/his mid or one you want to give her/him(at least there is always a new fragrance I want, in my mind), go for it. This is fun and easy way to update your brothers or mothers fragrance game, the sales associate will gladly help you to find the perfect scent. Of course you can go together to find the best one together. This same category includes other cosmetics and beauty products like the lotions, skincare, grooming essentials etc. Great stuff to get!

Candels & Home decor

Candles and home decor are more personal options. Easy way to give unforgettable gifts and same time update you daughters or boyfriends interior decoration with new lamp or rug. You can buy also buy candlestick or other decorative ornaments if you know the style of the one you are buying it. If you friend is freak about his/hers decoration, as I am, you can always ask if there is mirror, vase or pillow she/he would like. Candles are great option for the dark winter and you can't go wrong with scented Diptyque candles for a lover of decoration.

Gift Cards!!!

We need luxury in our daily bases and the gift cards is great way to give it to our loved ones. Massages and spa treatments are something we rarely dare to invest in ourselves so those are great and surely very much liked presents. With gift cards you can be creative and give something to yourself as well, tickets to your favorite concert, ballet or afternoon tea at some fancy place. Use a bit of your imagination and forget the regular gift cards to that department store, even the sky won't be the limit with this one.

I Wish You Good Luck to the Last Minute Shoppings!

Happy Birthday to Me!

It's the birthday day again, but I'm too tried to go out to celebrate. First of all it's Monday so the best places are closed. Guys are going out but the beers at the pub aint my thing. I rather watch Netflix by myself. It's important to have a little time for yourself and this birthday I'm gonna get it. I also celebrated my birthday with my friends on Saturday, so I kind of have celebrated this birthday already. I turn nineteen so it's not number you should celebrate with huge party anyway, I think.

I invited my friends to casual christmas birthday party on Sunday. We had mulled wine, snacks, games and lots of laugh. I didn't want to take any pressures about the food, as usual, so I spend the afternoon in the the city buying Christmas presents(tomorrow is coming post about the last minute gift shopping, buy the way) and was home few hours before the quest arrived. I put music on, lighted candles and prepared the cheese tray, popcorns etc. I was ready twenty minutes before the first guests arrived and had time to enjoy the hosting of party. We continued the evening to the city and I was in bed just before 4 a.m. Unfortunately I completely forgot to take any pictures. I snapped only few videos and totally forgot my phone. Thats always a sign of time well spend!

And hell no, these pictures are not from Sunday, hah. These pictures are from last year I turned eighteen and we hosted a bit bigger event to my relatives and family with my mum. The quality of the pictures is not the best and thats probably the reason I didn't post these last year. Well the  quality wasn't that bad I remembered so, I decided to publish these. I'm getting really hungry and want some  of that sandwich cake, croquembouche or petit fours immediately, does anyone else? Gosh I can't even remember when I have baked so much. Maybe I have to host some food party before next year.

Bear With Me!

The Christmas is in next week! Can you believe it? I can't. Usually it feels like forever before the holidays comes. Well, not forever but much longer. Maybe I feel this because I didn't start the Christmas hype early November as usually. Or maybe it's because I'm in the army so I'm not in the Christmas mood middle of lights, candles, and gingerbread. I feel terrified but also relieved that this year is over very soon. The year was great, but I can't wait the coming year with all chances it comes with. I will write about the highlights of the year and maybe create a collage about my favorite outfits I wore during the year.

Unfortunatly I haven't have time to decorate my room yet, and I will not. Past years my mom wanted to decorate less and less so I was the one decorating our home. Now I'm spending only the weekends at home so I couldn't enjoy the decorations that much, and it would take a full day to decorate and I want to spend my limited spare time with my loved ones rather than decorating my room by myself. We won't have even the Christmas three this year. If we would have I would decorate it with chrystal ornaments and I bet you could hang the tree upside down to the celling as a chandelier, haha.

I have only this weekend before Christmas, or I might have few days off before the holidays but I don't know yet! I still have to buy some gifts and I will celebrate my birthday with my friends on Saturday. Well I won't take pressures. I feel the theme for this Christmas is  minimalism: there is no need for crazy hustle and bustle. At least all the magazines I have read has created the illusion about the peaceful family Christmas and for me that works better than perfect, at least this year.

French Toast // Christmass Edition

I love the taste of chritmass. The traditional christmas dishes we eat during the holidays aren't all my favorites, but I live for the Christmas spices. I use cinnamon and ginger trough the year, but in December I like to spice up my ordinal meals with them.

Last weekend I made maybe the easiest breakfast, french toast, with a christmas twist. I live for St. Dalfour fig jam. Few weeks ago I wanted to buy it but the self in the store of it was empty. I wanted fig  jam with my bread but I didn't want to bay any other brand because this one is the best. So I give a try to raspberry and pomegranate jam of the same brad and it was success. My mum surprised me last weekend with the St. Dalfour fig jam and I had to make breakfast with them. French toasts come up in my mind immediately. French taste are easy to make and perfect with jam and whipped cream.  so I "surprised" my mom with french toasts on Saturday morning. I asked would she like some french toast and later I waked her up to the elegant breakfast. These are the moments I want to create and enjoy about.

The jams taste Christmas but I spiced the french toast as well. I added cinnamon and cardamom to the egg-milk mixture. I also spiced the coffee with coffee spice from last year. You can make everything to taste a bit more  like Chritmass. You don't need to have certain coffee falvours fighter. You can buy favored Chritmass coffee or just add cinnamon to the coffee grounds or if you want fancy cappuccino or late you can add the spices in your milk and heat and whip it.

Can't Live in the Moment

I have been suffering about living in the moments. For me the moments are very important. I want to enjoy of every minute I have were it good or bad. Now I'm driving crazy (again) with the thoughts about my future, coming days, weeks and even years. I just can't stop planing what will I do. I always think it's important to know what you want and will do but reaching our dreams can't be our only life.  I believe we need to work for our dreams but also live our lives and love the process at the same time.

I just haven't been able to live in the moments lately. I still create them, of course, but I haven't been able to enjoy them as usual. I kind of feel I want to live from the moment to the next as quick as possible. I think one of the reasons is the fact I'm in the army. My spacetime is so limited I can't enjoy life, see my friends, writite and edit as much I want. I turn 19 in few weeks so I have my  whole life in front of me. Still I feel the years will come too fast and I have no time to do the all things I want. I know I should calm down, take a deep breath and forget about these ridiculous toughts but I can't. I can't stop thinking about the next week. I can't stop planing the summer. I can't stop counting the coming years.

This is silly. I am aware about the problem I have but I can't solve it. For me it has always been important to dream, set and reach my goals but also live in the moment and take life not too seriously. It ain't always easy to get these two lifestyles balanced. I had times I study too had and forget to relax and times I enjoyd the life too much and forget the work. Unfortunately my thoughts are in the next  week now and I can't even enjoy or concentrate about this post. This inspiration I have is awesome but seriously, I have to slow down balance my life. I just don't know how.

Independence Day

One of my favorite things about December is all the celebrations it come with. December is definitely the party month of the year: there is the Christmas holidays and New Years Eve, I have my birthday at the 19th of December and today we celebrate the independence day of  Finland, which gave me the inspiration for this look. I wore this outfit last weekend at my friends graduation party which was so much fun, thank you Emmi!

I'm wearing my navy blue Selected Homme suit I got few years ago. Suit is always a good idea, but if you don't wear suits you really don't need to invest fortune to get tailored one. Selected Homme for example make great suits with quality fabrics and affordable price. Tailored shirts though is something every guy should invest in. Tailored shit makes the suit look better, if it's not in the perfect fit. Tailored suit looks amazing with formal looks, but is also great base for casual looks with knitwear or just by it self with pair of trousers.  The scarf is vintage Salvatore Ferragamo I got few years ago from my grandma who got it from her italian friend. I love the contrast of the navy, white and the bright blue. It reminds me a lot of our Blue Cross Flag and the look is something I would definitely wear at independence party as well.

Unfortunatly I am middle of forest at the camp at the moment and can't celebrate the independence day with the traditions of watching The Unknown Solider, and The Independence Day reception in the Presidential Palace. Have a good day!

Hyvää Itsenäisyyspäivää!

I spend last weekend in Helsinki with my friends. I had my camera with me but I kept it on my bag whole weekend. These are the only pictures taken by my friend Iina with her camera. Helsinki was already in the Christmas mood with Christmas lights, beautiful window displays and band playing the carols on the street. I hope I have time to visit Helsinki before the holidays to enjoy more about the Christmas feeling of the city. Even though the weather was a bit rainy the pictures ended up very were well. The lighting and camera settings were perfect so there was no need to edit these pictures at all. I love the wet pavement and shadows it gives to the Esplanadi which has to be my favorite street in Helsinki with beautiful architecture, stores and cafes.

My family always asks me why I wear my coats so often on my shoulders. I think it looks amazing. I feel good throwing coat on. For me this timeless way to wear coat looks mainly great and give always personal touch even to the most basic outfits. Everyone should even once throw the coat on and give it a change. Some people really don't get coats on shoulders, give a weird looks and even hateful comments. It may not be the most practical way to wear coat in the wind and rain, but what don't we do to look and feel good?

The December

It is official now: the Christmass is here. Unfortunately I don't have advent calendar or anything else like that for you guys. I was supposed to create something special but I just didn't have time and resources for that, sorry. Maybe next year? I will still be posting as much as I can about the Christmas and give you my best advices, so stay tuned and enjoy the most magical time of the year with me.

At the background I have worked very hard with my blog, and there is still so much to do. I have my eyes on January when I  will move my bog from the blogger to the worldpress as I told you before. I have went trough my old posts and translated them to english already. The overall appearance of my blog will remain the same with some small changes. I will insert adds and start making videos. So exited how terrified how I will get everything done. I can't promise I launch the new version of my blog at the begging of January but I promise I do that as quick as I can.
